BITCRIME project
BITCRIME was a bilateral, German-Austrian research project dealing with the prevention and prosecution of organized financial crime using decentralized, virtual crypto currencies such as Bitcoin. The aim of the German sub-project, which was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), was to develop innovative approaches to the identification, prosecution and prevention of crimes with virtual crypto currencies that are appropriate to the nature of virtual crypto currencies and thus practicable. Over a period of 27 months (November 2014 to January 2017), technical and organisational approaches were developed to enable effective criminal investigations. The chair of Professor Safferling contributed to the areas of (international) criminal law and (international) criminal procedural law.
